Recent Change of Ownership
The original creators of Captn. Jack's tide books, Joseph Kawaky and Rose Jones, sold their ownership rights to the various Captn. Jack's publications back in 1999. In subsequent years the new owner expanded Captn. Jack's product offerings beyond tide and current publications to include marine and aviation navigation software, digital cartography, web-based mapping services, and PC hardware.
Just recently, and far too late to affect certain 2006 publications, Kawaky and Jones re-acquired 100% ownership rights to all Captn. Jack's tide and current publications, as well as to the Captn. Jack's trademark as it relates to nautical publications. These publication-related assets are now managed under the name of Coastwise Press LLC and do NOT include any assets or liabilities associated with the Captn. Jack's software catalog or any of the digital or PC-based products.

What is the availability and future outlook for each of the Captn. Jack's publications?
Captn. Jack's Tide & Current Almanac - Puget Sound: The 2006 edition will NOT be published. The 2007 edition will be issued in November 2006, and all subsequent annual editions will be made available each and every November thereafter.
Captn. Jack's Tide & Current Almanac - Bristol Bay: The 2006 salmon season edition will be issued in late May 2006 and dealer orders are now being accepted. All subsequent annual editions will be made available each and every April thereafter.
Captn. Jack's Current Atlas - Pacific Northwest: Currently out of print and out of stock. A revised edition will be issued in November 2006 and maintained in continuous publication and availability thereafter.
Captn. Jack's Tables - Pacific Northwest: The 2006 edition will NOT be published. The 2007 edition will be issued in November 2006, and all subsequent annual editions will be made available each and every November thereafter.
Does the change in ownership affect how Captn. Jack's tide and current books will be distributed and sold?
Not at all. Captn. Jack's publications will continue to be distributed to the trade by Robert Hale & Company (1-800-733-5330) and other selected wholesale distributors, as well as directly by Coastwise Press. End users will continue purchasing Captn. Jack's publications from better marine retail outlets.

So what's the status of the non-publications business operations such as navigation software, digital cartography, PC-based electronics, and the Captn. Jack's Catalog?
When the original owners sold their business in 1999 a new entity under the control of Encino, California-based Westrec Marinas was formed. That entity, Captn. Jack's LLC, remained the sole owner until September 2005 when all of the non-publishing related assets were acquired by a Columbia, Illinois-based division of SAIC. In April 2006 SAIC subsequently re-sold some of these assets to Maptech of Amesbury, Massachusetts. Maptech's sales department may be reached at 1-888-839-5551. We understand that Maptech has plans to re-issued the Captn. Jack's Catalog in the coming months.
